Philippe Mexes has admitted that he is finding it tough to cope with life at Roma right now.

The youngster joined the club from Auxerre in the summer but he’s struggled to live up to his potential."This is the most difficult period of my career," he told French newspaper L’Equipe.

"When the team struggles, then individuals often struggle too."I can’t say that I am satisfied with what is happening but I hope that we can now start to win games with some consistency."We have a very young squad and that was one of the reasons why I accepted Roma’s offer.Perhaps we just need a transitional year to get to know each other a little better."

The capital club have had a disastrous term so far, appointing three new Coaches following the departure of boss Fabio Capello in the summer.

"I had lunch with Capello and he told me that the fact I was talking to him meant that he intended to stay. Then he joined Juventus the day after," added Mexes.

The French international also admits that he’s taking his time to adapt to the Italian championship."It is a League which is very difficult for defenders," he continued. "I have learnt a lot on a physical and tactical level but I’m not enjoying myself as I did at Auxerre."
